Het jaar zit er al weer voor de helft op. Tijd om even terug te kijken op de eerste zes maanden.
Nieuwe albums
Veel mooie nieuwe albums gehoord dit jaar.
Zoals Big Time van Angel Olsen met country invloeden. Eerdere albums van deze Amerikaanse zangeres pakten me niet maar deze schijf wel.
Ook Vanwyck imponeert met The Epic Tale of the Stranded Man. Uitgebracht op het Excelsior Recordings label. Ze wordt per album beter.
Verder erg genoten van het album Chloë & the Next 20th Century van Father John Misty. De sound is beïnvloed door jazz, big bands en klassieke pop.
Beach House tapt uit een ander vaatje met melancholische dreampop op Once Twice Melody.
Het Amerikaanse duo Calexico ging op de vorige albums meer richting pop. Op El Mirador keert Calexico gelukkig terug naar Mexicaanse en Zuid-Amerikaanse invloeden die we van oudere platen kennen. Op het album Sinner’s Shrine van Dean Owens werken beide heren van Calexico Joey Burns en John Convertino ook mee.
Orville Peck is de Canadese muzikant die vintage rock ’n roll en country maakt en doet denken aan Elvis en Roy Orbison. De gemaskerde zanger schurkt aan tegen kitsch maar met het album Bronco heeft hij mij wel te pakken.
Behalve Vanwyck levert ook de Nederlandse band Moss een prima album af met HX. Ook op het Excelsior Recordings label.
Verder een degelijk album gehoord van The Arcade Fire met We en van The Black Keys met Dropout Boogie.
De oogst van de eerste helft van 2022 is goed en hopelijk zet die lijn zich door naar de tweede helft van 2022.

Arno Hintjens en Andy Fletcher RIP
Verder ontvielen ons weer een groot aantal muzikanten waaronder Arno Hintjens. De eigenzinnige Belg laat ons een imposant oeuvre na. Ook Andy Fletcher de toetsenist van Depeche Mode verliet ons. Het is onbekend of Depeche Mode blijft bestaan en doorgaat.

Ik had een mooi interview met singer-songwriter Eric Devries over zijn album The Song & Dance Man en het bestaan als muzikant. Aandacht voor de dreampop van Celine Cairo. Tenslotte ook Maarten Heijmans in de spotlight gezet omdat hij zijn Ramses album kan promoten met een tour. Tenslotte ook aandacht voor Etan Huijs die met Dreams In Multicolor een fraaie ep heeft gemaakt.
Paul McCartney werd op 18 juni 80 jaar. Om hier bij stil te staan een blog over zijn 5 beste albums. En twee posts over The Beatles. Over de begintijd The Beatles in Hamburg. En over het moment dat ze super populair waren. Over hun periode van Transcedente Meditatie in Rishikesh kun je meer lezen op The Beatles in India.

2022 halfway review
The year is already half over. Time to take a look back at the first six months.
Heard a lot of great new albums this year.
Like Big Time by Angel Olsen with country influences. Previous albums of this American singer did not grab me but this disc did.
Vanwyck also impresses with The Epic Tale of the Stranded Man. Released on the Excelsior Recordings label. She’s getting better by each album.
I also really enjoyed the album Chloe & the Next 20th Century by Father John Misty. The sound is influenced by jazz, big bands and classic pop.
Beach House taps from a different barrel with melancholy dreampop on Once Twice Melody.
The American duo Calexico has tended more towards pop on its previous albums. On El Mirador Calexico fortunately returns to Mexican and South American influences that we know from older records. On Dean Owens’ album Sinner’s Shrine, both Calexico men Joey Burns and John Convertino also collaborate.
Orville Peck is the Canadian musician who makes vintage rock ‘n roll and country reminiscent of Elvis and Roy Orbison. The masked singer chafes against kitsch but with the album Bronco he has got me.
Besides Vanwyck, the Dutch band Moss also delivers a fine album with HX. Also on the Excelsior Recordings label.
I also heard a decent album by The Arcade Fire with We and by The Black Keys with Dropout Boogie.
The harvest of the first half of 2022 is good and hopefully that line will continue into the second half.

We also lost a large number of musicians, including Arno Hintjens. The wayward Belgian left us an impressive oeuvre. Also Andy Fletcher, the keyboard player of Depeche Mode, left us. It is unknown whether Depeche Mode will continue to exist and go on.
