25 jaar geleden verscheen het vijfde album van Moby met de titel Play. Tijd voor een terugblik in het blog vijf dingen die je moet weten over Play van Moby.
Hoeveel singles heeft Play voortgebracht en welke waren het meest succesvol?
Play heeft in totaal zes singles voortgebracht. De meest succesvolle singles van het album waren: Honey, Porcelain, Natural Blues, Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad, South Side en Bodyrock.
Het openingnummer van het album Honey is gesampled uit Sometime van Bessie Jones.
Porcelain behoort tot zijn bekendste nummers van het album en zijn repertoire. Een rustig nummer over afscheid en spijt waarbij de synthesizer en piano de boventoon voeren en Moby zingt. Porcelain gebruikte filmproducer Danny Boyle in de succesvolle film The Beach met Leonardo DiCaprio in de hoofdrol. Het was DiCaprio´s eerste film sinds zijn rol in de kaskraker The Titanic.

How many singles did Play produce and which ones were the most successful?
Play has spawned a total of six singles. The album’s most successful singles were: “Honey”, “Porcelain”, “Natural Blues”, “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad”, “South Side” and “Bodyrock”.
Porcelain is one of his best-known songs from the album and his repertoire. A quiet song about goodbye and regret in which the synthesizer and piano predominate and Moby sings. Porcelain used film producer Danny Boyle in the successful film The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio. It was DiCaprio’s first film since his role in the blockbuster movie The Titanic.
Natural Blues was one of several songs on Moby’s album Play, in which he used samples from albums of American folk music, originally collected by field collector Alan Lomax. The song contains samples of American folk singer Vera Hall’s “Trouble So Hard,” with whom Moby established a profound connection. Both Hall and Lomax are credited as co-writers for their contributions to the original recordings.
